Every Little Bit Counts..
On 27 September 2022, several members of an animal fund-raising organization commenced defamation proceedings against Animal Rehoming Cairns and Tablelands District (ARCATDistrict) co-founder, Lorraine. As a result of these proceedings, she and her husband Tuenis face potentially losing their family home, where they foster almost 50 rescue animals. As a result of the loss of funding, and the significant financial pressures on Lorraine and Tuenis due to the proceedings, ARCATDistrict has had to cease taking new rescue animals and are at risk of having to close the rescue entirely. This is devastating at this critical time, when pounds and rescue groups are overwhelmed with so many animals in need.
Who We Are
Animal Rehoming Cairns and Tablelands District is our Facebook name. Our registered name is Animal Rehoming Tablelands. We’re a privately run rescue group and have been operating in the Tablelands/Cairns district since June 2012. The heart of our organisation is our dedicated team of volunteer foster carers who bring our rescues into their homes and care for them as if they were their own until we find the absolute perfect home for them.
What We Do
We rescue abandoned companion pets from our local pounds, local Veterinarians and sometimes, private surrenders if we have the room. We take the pets into our foster homes and care for them, have them vet checked, desexed, micro chipped, vaccinated and worm and flea treated before we offer them for adoption. Our kitty rescues are also tested for FIV and FeLV and our dogs are tested for heart worm and treated if found positive. Our goal is to persuade our community wherever we can to desex their pets and break the cycle of breeding by accident.
With Your Help
How We Do It
We use great social media platforms like Facebook, PetRescue and GumTree to our benefit, promoting our available pets, requesting that potential adopters complete our obligation free adoption questionnaire. This helps us match the right families to our precious foster pets.
Be a Part Of
Why We Do It
Many people aren’t aware that the current rates of euthanasia in pounds around Australia is higher than 50% – in some cases as high as 98% and we want to make a difference. We believe every animal deserves to be loved, treasured and cared for it’s a start for us to seek out and re-home the homeless here in Far North Queensland.
The Cost
What Does it Cost to Save a Life
We are very fortunate to have support from Cairns Animal Welfare and our vet partners Ulysses Vets. Adoption fees are $250 for cats/kittens and $500 for pups and dogs. All animals are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. Cats are tested for FIV and dogs for Heart Worm. You’re not buying a pet when you pay our adoption fee, you’re paying for their general care and vet bills. the pet comes free!!!
Sponsorship
Animal Rehoming Tablelands is not a charity organisation. We’re just a group of volunteers trying to rehome companion pets who need help to find their forever homes.
